A Few Phone Calls for Peace?
You know that you only have a few days left to impact next Tuesday’s historic election. Believe it or not, you can make a difference from anywhere you have a phone and internet access.
Make calls for pro-peace candidates in close races by clicking here for Zephyr Teachout, here for Doug Applegate or emailing email@example.com for Rep. Rick Nolan. Be sure to tell them that you’re a Peace Action supporter!
While making a few phone calls from the comfort of home or during your lunch break might seem insignificant, remember that other Peace Action supporters will be making calls too. You’ll be a part of a powerful, virtual peace phone bank that can make a difference in these tight elections. We always like to remember Senator Al Franken (D-MN). In 2008, he won by only 312 votes! Norm Coleman held that seat and often scored 0% on our voting record. Now, we have Senator Franken who has averaged nearly 90% for the last eight years! So, your calls can make a huge difference.
Zephyr Teachout (D-NY-19) is a first time candidate for congressional office in one of the tightest races in the country. She opposed the Iraq War and the 2011 military intervention in Libya, and she supports international diplomacy to reduce the number of nuclear weapons in the world. Her approach to terrorism involves addressing the root causes of extremism, and supporting police efforts to prevent attacks rather than more military interventions.
Please take a few moments and make some easy calls so she can vote for peace in congress by visiting this website.
Doug Applegate (D-CA-49), a 32-year veteran Marine Colonel, is in a super close race with republican incumbent Darrell Issa. Applegate wants to improve the Veterans Administration and stop endless wars. He also wants a debate and a vote on a new Authorization of Use of Military Force (AUMF) against ISIS and to stop Pentagon contracting that wastes trillions of American taxpayer dollars.
Will you pick up the phone and help send Doug to the nation’s capital to represent Peace Action and your values by signing up to make calls here.
Rep. Rick Nolan, an incumbent representative from Minnesota’s 8th district, is in a competitive race with republican challenger Stewart Mills. He opposed bombing Syria in response to alleged use of chemical weapons in 2013, which allowed space for a diplomatic solution under which the Assad regime voluntarily handed over the vast majority of its chemical weapons stockpile. He has supported withdrawing troops from Iraq and Syria, opposed arming Syrian rebels, and pushed for withdrawal from Afghanistan. Nolan also voted against plans to upgrade various delivery systems for nuclear weapons that would fuel an emerging arms race. Most importantly, he has averaged 95% on our voting record for the last six years!
With your volunteer help, we can keep Rep. Nolan, a true peace champion, in office. Please contact Samm Bonawitz at firstname.lastname@example.org to make some calls.
Make sure you tell these peace campaigns that Peace Action sent you!
Of course, these campaigns would also love you to volunteer cash resources and you can do that here.
