This bill looked to repeal the Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) against Iraq that Congress, which passed in 2002 to authorize the war against Saddam Hussein’s regime in Iraq on the basis that it possessed weapons of mass destruction. Since the 2011 declared end to the Iraq War, the executive branch has used it for campaigns against ISIS in Iraq under the Obama Administration, and for the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, an Iranian General, under the Trump Administration. Passed 66-30.
