Weapons Pushers vs. AARP – whose side are you on?
We’ll have more on this soon, but a New York Times article from Saturday makes very clear the Pentagon, its defenders in Congress and the merchants of death (Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman and their ilk) seek to spare the Pentagon from $20 billion in budget cuts under sequestration, and that the money should instead be cut from education, Social Security and Medicare.
Needless to say, lots of people and organizations will oppose such misguided priorities. The American Association of Retired People (AARP) is first out of the starting gate with a radio ad campaign opposing cuts to seniors’ programs. More soon from the peace and justice and human needs forces, as this struggle is just beginning.
