Sen. Rubio makes the case for foreign aid
Foreign aid has been an attractive target for too many politicians and pundits in the debate around government spending. Despite the fact that foreign aid is a tiny portion of the federal budget, there is much grandstanding about throwing money at other countries when we need it here. Cutting these programs is shortsighted, and we could easily maintain robust foreign aid programs and take care of people in the US if we did things like end tax cuts for the rich and cut wasteful military spending.
In a refreshing departure, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) made the case for smart foreign aid in response to a letter from a 14-year-old constituent concerned about spending money abroad:
