Peace Action Endorses Ilhan Omar for Congress

 In 2020 Election, Congress

Washington, DC — June 25, 2019 — Peace Action has announced its endorsement of Ilhan Omar for Congress in Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District. Peace Action is a national grassroots organization working to advance nuclear disarmament, promote government spending priorities that support human needs, encourage real security through international cooperation and human rights, and support nonmilitary solutions to international conflicts.

“Peace Action is a national leader in the struggles for peace and a world free from the threat of nuclear weapons, and I’m proud to have their endorsement,” said Omar. “I share Peace Action’s conviction that we are safest when our foreign policy helps make others safe, that we are strongest when we invest in our communities instead of in endless war, and that we are greatest when our values extend beyond the water’s edge. I look forward to continuing to work with Peace Action to advance the cause of peace.”

Paul Kawika Martin, Senior Director for Policy and Political Affairs at Peace Action, who also directs Peace Action’s PAC, said of the candidate, “Peace Action is delighted to once again endorse Ilhan Omar for Congress. She speaks truth to power with unrivaled tenacity, invigorating a national conversation about Palestinian rights, challenging the logic of endless war, and speaking out in defense of marginalized communities the nation and the world over. She also knows we can do so much more for our communities if we invest in them instead of spending more than the next seven nations combined on our military. Omar’s continued leadership is a must-have in the 117th Congress.”
